FSO Strings
Fredericton Symphony Orchestra Strings has risen from the full symphony group. Due to the restrictions of gathering in groups caused by the pandemic it was difficult to get the whole group or about 50 players together to rehearse before even considering a concert. So, this spring the FSO decided to have its strings rehearse as a group in order to explore the repertoire for string orchestra. There happens to be some lovely music written over the years for this formation. We have selected a range of music that explores the more serious tones from the northern European composers to the pastoral of the British Edwardians.
Atlantic Sinfonia Strings
Since 2004 the Atlantic Sinfonia groups of strings and winds have been performing as professional small ensemble groups in New Brunswick. Over the years they have toured the Atlantic Provinces, commissioned new works from Atlantic based composers, conducted educational programs and mounted special projects to commemorate New Brunswick music and musicians. It is the only professional orchestral entity based in Fredericton, the provincial capital. Atlantic Sinfonia selections celebrate music for string orchestra from two well respected composers as well as presenting the music of Janis Kalnins, a resident of Fredericton for many years and a composer, organist, conductor, and music educator.
